What we do · Practice 04

Your leadership framework, made real

Most organisations do not need a new leadership framework. They already have one. What they need is for it to become how their leaders actually behave on a Tuesday afternoon. We design and run leadership capability development programmes, executive diagnostics and workplace culture reviews for public sector and local government organisations, and we add no new vocabulary. Your capability framework and your values are the only language participants learn and are measured against. The facilitation is led by people who have built high performing teams at the highest level, including the former head coach of the Australian men’s cricket team.

What we do

Your framework, your language, measured from day one.

  • Leadership capability development programmes: cohort based, delivered in person over nine to twelve months, for executive teams, managers and people leaders
  • Executive and team diagnostics: an individual leadership style instrument, a 360 built from your own capability framework and reported against it, and a team level diagnostic, on a platform you hold and can re-run without us
  • Action learning projects on your live organisational problems, worked to a decision paper a sponsor has to decide on
  • Executive coaching and a day of one to one shadowing for senior leaders, with feedback against your framework in the leader’s own working day
  • Workplace culture reviews and reform roadmaps
  • Values into practice, Theory of Change and programme evaluation, with quarterly reporting to the chief executive on what is shifting
  • Learning design: facilitator guides, workbooks, journals and decks on your branding, which you keep
  • Veteran and transition leadership programmes

How we work

How we design.

Six principles govern every design decision.

Principle 01
Your language, not ours.

Your framework and values are the spine of every module. Where we use an external tool, its output is mapped back to your capabilities before it is used with participants.

Principle 02
The work is the classroom.

Every session sets a workplace application task tied to a real decision the participant is already facing. The next session opens by reviewing what happened, including what did not work.

Principle 03
One facilitator, one cohort.

The same lead facilitator runs every module and coaching circle of a cohort, so the person who set the standard on day one is the person who reviews it at the end.

Principle 04
The leadership team is the unit of change.

Sessions are mixed across directorates, the executive commits first, and every participant’s manager is in the programme too.

Principle 05
Practise the uncomfortable things.

Conflict, feedback, poor behaviour and difficult conversations are rehearsed in the room, with real scenarios from participants, not role plays from a manual.

Principle 06
Measure from the first day, and design for what happens after.

The baseline and diagnostics run before design is final. Participants leave with a development plan, a team charter and agreed standards that carry into performance conversations. The organisation leaves with instruments and a method it owns.

Evidence

What the evidence says, and what we do about it.

We do not build on a proprietary model. The design draws on a small number of well documented bodies of work, each chosen because it answers something government leadership programmes get wrong, and each one is public so your people can check the basis for themselves.

Transfer of training (Baldwin and Ford; Blume and colleagues). Whether learning is used back at work depends on the participant’s own manager and the chance to apply it soon.
So: application tasks with a named situation and a date, a manager guide before each cohort, and a manager conversation after the final module.
Meta-analysis of 335 leadership training studies (Lacerenza and colleagues, 2017). Needs analysis, feedback and spaced delivery each multiply on the job transfer.
So: diagnostics before design is final, a 360 for every participant, and modules spaced weeks apart, not a block.
Why leadership training fails (Beer, Finnstrom and Schrader, 2016). Leaders revert when they return to an organisation that has not changed.
So: action learning on your real problems, sponsors in the room, and a 360 written in the language of your performance plans.
Multisource feedback and follow up (Smither, London and Reilly, 2005). A 360 on its own produces small change; debriefed, goal-set and followed up it produces lasting change.
So: every 360 is debriefed one to one by an accredited practitioner and feeds a development plan.
Kirkpatrick four levels, Theory of Change and outcome harvesting. Design the results measures first; evaluate at reaction, learning, behaviour and results; and capture the changes the indicators miss.
So: a one page Theory of Change agreed with you before the pilot, a report after every cohort, and an emergent change stream in each one.
Nuvanta Research 2026/02, Why government strategies stall. Of 75 Australian government strategies, 39% crossed from document into funded delivery, and the difference was whether anything downstream was designed to act on it.
So: a leadership framework is a strategy on paper until leaders behave differently, and the whole programme is built around application, sponsors and reporting, not attendance.
What Nuvanta adds

The facilitation is world class, and it is not the whole job.

Nuvanta designs the programme around your framework, builds the measurement, runs the diagnostics and evaluation so you can show your chief executive and your council what changed, and manages the coordination, scheduling and reporting so the programme lands on time and within budget. The people named on the proposal are the people in the room, for every cohort, and any change to key personnel comes to you for approval first.

The honest trade-off. A larger leadership house offers a longer catalogue and a deeper bench. We offer a smaller team with more senior attention, a design built around your organisation rather than a catalogue, and a price with no licence tail: the only recurring cost on our diagnostics is a platform subscription in your name, not a fee per head for the life of the contract.

A practice launched in 2026

This practice launched in 2026. Its lead facilitator has been coach in residence to executive teams in Queensland Government and industry for most of the past decade, and the team has designed and evaluated leadership, values and culture programmes for public sector, not-for-profit and faith-based organisations.
